About David Jaffin
David Jaffin has over 40 years of experience in a variety of manufacturing and financial service companies, both public and private. His specific experience includes operations, public fund management, and private equity investing in fields as varied as specialty chemicals, mutual funds, and biotechnology.
Most recently he was co-founder and CFO of Poliwogg Holdings, a company creating innovative healthcare indices. Mr. Jaffin helped raise the initial and subsequent rounds of financing. Previously he was Chief Financial and Operating Officer of XShares Advisors LLC, which was an issuer of exchange traded funds, primarily focused on the healthcare/biotech sector. He was the first partner to join XShares after its founding and helped raise the start-up capital and the first institutional round of financing. He was responsible for the company’s and its fund operations. He also arranged for the sale of XShares to Deutsche Bank in 2010. Following the acquisition, he became a consultant to Deutsche Bank to assist with transition and product development issues.
Prior experience also includes serving as President and CEO of a private specialty coatings and chemical company and serving as CFO of HoloPak Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of specialty coatings which was publicly traded on NASDAQ. Prior to these jobs, David worked for a private equity firm affiliated with Bessemer Securities Corporation, one of the oldest and largest family offices in the United States. He began his career as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co., where he earned his Certified Public Accountant certification.
Specific accomplishments include:
- Raising financing (both debt and equity) for start-up companies, buyouts and operations
- Arranging for the sale of Xshares to Deutsche Bank
- Sourcing, diligencing and financing acquisitions, both private and public
- Assisting with sale of companies, both public and private
At operating companies:
- Increasing revenues and production capacity
- New product introduction
- Improving inventory turns
- Finding material tax overpayments
David focusses on the use of technology to improve profitability and cash flow in new and existing businesses, in particular as it pertains to process improvement and human resources. He believes that focusing on better metrics “more accurate and speedier measurements of key business processes, improved modeling and forecasting techniques” can improve cash flow and increase the strategic value of businesses.
David received a BA in History, cum laude, from Harvard College, and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from New York University. His interests include birding, hiking, fly-fishing and music. He lives with his wife and two children in Woodbury, CT.
